The famous "Hollywood sign" beams down from the Hollywood hills and is visible throughout Los Angeles, and if you've ever visited then you've probably wondered how to reach it. Well in fact you can't, its illegal, but there are many websites that will bombard you with options of how to get the closest.
The first time I visited LA I made the rookie mistake of thinking, "if I just keep driving up into the hill's then eventually I would find it magically in front of me," like a Hollywood mirage miracle. Well those hill's have many a small windy road that will lead you to dead end after dead end or if you are lucky, Leonardo DiCaprio's driveway.
Griffith park Observatory has plenty of distant photo opportunities, and if you are feeling particularly energetic theres a great hike that takes you across the peaks of the Hollywood hills with views looking directly down onto the Hollywood sign and out across LA.
But if you are looking for that perfect selfie portrait with a clear view of the Hollywood sign glimmering with clarity behind you, then head to 3200 Canyon lake drive, in the Hollywood hills. Once you reach here keep driving a little way up Mulholland Hwy until you see the view point. I discovered this little gem of a place last weekend whilst I was in LA, trying my hardest to discover that perfect spot, and I may of just found it.
